Week 4 (Project launch online)
This project transforms the raw, textured brick walls of Manchester's historic industrial architecture—such as those found in the Northern Quarter or Ancoats—into a dynamic canvas. Using projection mapping technology, we will create a 5-10 minute looping visual narrative that blends archival imagery of the city's industrial past with abstract, generative digital art. The concept explores the 'echo' of Manchester's identity, visualizing how the rhythms of historic machinery and worker communities resonate in the city's modern creative pulse. What makes it unique is its site-specific nature; the artwork will be designed to interact with the unique architectural features (windows, pipes, brick patterns) of a chosen location, creating an illusion of the building itself coming to life with memory and data. The installation will be presented as a free, public-facing event over one weekend, inviting Mancunians to engage with their city's history in a new, immersive way. It leverages the trend of blending digital art with physical heritage and creating accessible, outdoor gallery experiences. The final piece will be a portfolio-worthy example of location-responsive new media art, documented through high-quality film and photography.
