Project Brief

This project transforms overlooked corners of Manchester—disused railway arches, forgotten canal-side walls, and hidden industrial courtyards—into a temporary, open-air illustrated theatre. We will create a series of 4-5 large-scale, narrative-driven illustrations featuring a recurring 'Guardian' character, a spectral figure born from Manchester's industrial soul. Each illustration will be a self-contained scene, telling a fragment of a larger story about memory, resilience, and urban transformation. The character, an Art Director's vision brought to life by an Illustrator's hand and informed by a Theatre Actor's physicality, will interact with the architectural textures and histories of its specific location. What makes this unique is its site-specific, ephemeral nature and its fusion of disciplines. It's not just street art; it's performative illustration. We'll document the process and final pieces through a short, atmospheric film, capturing the interaction of the artwork with the changing Manchester light, weather, and passersby. This leverages the trend of 'art as experience' and location-based storytelling, creating portfolio pieces that are both stunning visual artworks and compelling narratives about place.
