Project Brief

This project captures the unique sonic identity of the London Tube. A musician and a spoken word artist will collaborate to record field recordings from iconic stations (e.g., Westminster, Kings Cross, Camden Town) and weave them into an ambient electronic EP. The spoken word artist will contribute voiceovers inspired by the commuters, the history, and the rhythm of the city. The result is a portfolio-worthy piece that blends music, sound design, and storytelling—perfect for a modern, experimental portfolio. What makes this unique is its hyper-local focus: it uses the Tube not just as a backdrop but as an instrument. The rattle of the Jubilee line, the hiss of brakes at Baker Street, the distant busker at Oxford Circus—each sound is recorded, processed, and composed into a track. The project will be released on streaming platforms with a visual component (a simple lyric video or looped footage from the stations) to attract both music fans and London culture enthusiasts. The team will consist of a musician (to compose and produce), a spoken word artist (to write and perform), a social media manager (to document and promote), and optionally a videographer (to capture B-roll for socials). The project aligns with current trends in hyper-local music, field recording, and ambient storytelling.
