This project invites a small team to create a series of immersive light art installations that celebrate Manchester's iconic Northern Quarter. Drawing on the area's vibrant street art, music heritage, and industrial architecture, the installations will use projection mapping, neon tubing, and interactive LED elements to reimagine familiar spaces. The goal is to craft a visually stunning, Instagrammable experience that engages the public and showcases the intersection of technology and creativity. The concept is 'Neon Northern Quarter' – a walking trail of light installations that tell the story of Manchester's past, present, and future. Each installation will be site-specific, responding to the unique character of locations like Afflecks, Piccadilly Records, and the Northern Quarter street art. By using sustainable materials and energy-efficient lighting, the project also comments on the role of art in urban regeneration and community building. What makes this unique is its fusion of traditional Mancunian grit with futuristic light art, creating a contrast that is both nostalgic and forward-looking. The project will culminate in a one-night exhibition and a digital portfolio, offering participants a standout piece for their creative portfolios.
