Project Brief

This project is a dance-centered performance film that captures the essence of Ilorin's rich cultural tapestry and its people's unyielding spirit. Set against the dramatic backdrop of Sobi Hill, the production follows a troupe of dancers as they interpret the journey of an ancient Ilorin warrior who finds strength in community and nature. The narrative weaves through key local landmarks, blending the raw energy of contemporary dance with the soulful pulse of talking drums and shekere. We will utilize the natural amphitheater of the hill's rocky outcrops, the serene waters of the Oyun River, and the bustling energy of the Ilorin Central Market as stages. The film will be edited in a dynamic, rhythmic style, merging live performance cuts with slow-motion sequences to emphasize emotion and physicality. The goal is to create a visually arresting piece that feels both timeless and trend-forward, tapping into the global appetite for authentic, location-driven storytelling. What makes this unique is the synthesis of Ilorin's specific cultural motifs—such as the durbar-inspired movement and the use of traditional textiles like aso-oke—with a minimalist, contemporary cinematic lens. The final cut will be a portfolio-worthy showcase of dance, editing, and local color, designed to premiere at regional film and arts festivals.
