This project transforms Kingston upon Thames' historic Ancient Market into a living, breathing art installation. 'Thames Tide' merges fashion, theatre, and live performance to tell the story of the river's flow from its rural Surrey origins to the heart of London. Using upcycled fabrics and natural materials sourced from along the Thames Path, the piece will feature models as 'river spirits' moving through a choreographed fashion show that doubles as a theatrical narrative. The performance will be broken into three acts: 'Source' (Surrey's countryside), 'Urban Flow' (the journey through London), and 'Estuary' (the meeting with the sea). What makes this unique is its hyper-local focus: the performance will incorporate live soundscapes recorded along the Thames (from Richmond Lock to Hampton Court Palace), and the costumes will be dyed with natural pigments made from mud, leaves, and flowers collected from specific Surrey riverbanks. The event is designed to be free and open to the public, creating an immersive experience that connects audiences to their local environment while showcasing creative talent. The final production will be filmed and edited into a short promotional piece for local arts initiatives. By leveraging the current trend for sustainable fashion and site-specific theatre, this project offers a powerful portfolio piece for actors and models, demonstrating their ability to work in non-traditional, narrative-led performance. The event will be held in the evening to maximize the atmospheric lighting of the market's historic arches.
