Project Brief

This project merges traditional street art with cutting-edge augmented reality to create an immersive trail through Manchester's iconic Northern Quarter. We'll commission three large-scale murals on prominent walls, each inspired by Manchester's history—from the industrial revolution to the Hacienda era and modern-day diversity. These murals will serve as anchors for AR layers that reveal hidden animations, soundscapes, and interactive elements when viewed through a custom-built app. The trail will culminate in a community event where the public can experience the art and participate in workshops. The creative vision is to celebrate Manchester's spirit of innovation and rebellion, using art to bridge past and present. Each mural will be designed by local artists in collaboration with AR developers, ensuring a cohesive aesthetic that blends street art styles with digital magic. The project is unique because it offers a tangible legacy (the murals) alongside a digital layer that can evolve over time, engaging both physical and remote audiences. By involving the community in workshops, we ensure the project resonates beyond the initial launch. We'll document the entire process—from design to installation—creating a behind-the-scenes documentary that captures the collaborative effort and the stories behind the art. The final deliverables will include the murals, the AR app, a documentary, and a public event, making this a portfolio-worthy showcase of cross-disciplinary creativity.
