The Northern Quarter Monologues is an immersive theatre experience that transforms Manchester's vibrant Northern Quarter into a living stage. Audiences are guided through a series of intimate, site-specific performances in unexpected locations — from a vintage record shop to a hidden courtyard, a bustling coffee house to the iconic Afflecks Palace. Each monologue is a love letter to the area, drawing on its industrial past, its musical heritage, and its current status as a creative hub. The project celebrates the people of Manchester — the dreamers, the makers, the rebels — through a tapestry of voices that echo through its streets. This project is unique because it uses the city itself as the set, creating a deep connection between the audience and the space. The performances are designed to be fluid, with the audience moving between locations, guided by a mysterious 'DJ' character who weaves the narrative together. The creative team will collaborate to write and perform original monologues, each tailored to its specific venue, incorporating local folklore, personal anecdotes, and contemporary issues. The final output will be a short film documenting the experience, capturing the raw energy of live performance against the backdrop of Manchester's most iconic neighbourhood.
