This project transforms the vibrant, nocturnal energy of Manchester's Northern Quarter into a compelling audio-visual experience. We will spend two weeks capturing field recordings — from the hum of trams on Oldham Street to the chatter in Stevenson Square and the distant bass from nightclubs. These sounds will form the backbone of a 10-minute electronic/ambient piece, layered with original melodic motifs that echo the area's gritty creativity. The final output will be a music video that overlays these recordings with slow-motion, impressionistic footage of the quarter: rain on cobblestones, neon signs reflected in puddles, and silhouettes of night owls. This project taps into the trend of 'place-based music' and offers a unique portfolio piece that celebrates Manchester’s distinctive identity.
