Project Brief

This project transforms a curated route through Soho's iconic streets (Old Compton Street, Dean Street, and Soho Square) into a living canvas. Over two weeks of production and one culminating live night, a team of performers, musicians, and a filmmaker will create a roving, episodic narrative. Each location—a hidden courtyard, a neon-lit bar front, a historic shop doorway—becomes a stage for a short, site-responsive piece: a spoken word poem about the area's queer history, a melancholic violin solo echoing from an alley, a flash mob performance reimagining the music hall era. The audience, guided by a digital map, wanders the route, experiencing vignettes that layer past and present. What makes this unique is its fusion of live performance with real-time visual capture. A filmmaker will simultaneously record and project footage from earlier locations onto a central wall in Soho Square, creating a live, multi-layered montage. The final live event will be documented and edited into a short film, but the experience itself is ephemeral, designed to celebrate Soho's resilient, creative spirit and engage the community in a shared, fleeting artwork. It leverages current trends in immersive theatre and hyperlocal storytelling.
