This project invites a small team to create an immersive musical piece that embodies the spirit of Manchester. The core concept is to blend original electronic compositions with field recordings collected from iconic and everyday locations across the city. The result will be a unique audio portrait that feels both familiar and otherworldly, celebrating Manchester's industrial heritage, its vibrant music scene, and its resilient character. The team will spend the first week exploring and recording sounds at key landmarks like the Manchester Central Library, the canals at Castlefield, the bustling Northern Quarter, and the Etihad Stadium. These raw materials—from the hum of trams to the chatter in a café—will be woven into a 6-8 minute track that evolves like a day in the life of the city. The final piece will be accompanied by a minimal visualizer made from slow-motion footage of these locations, creating a multi-sensory experience. What makes this project unique is its focus on authenticity and collaboration. Instead of pre-written music, the composition will emerge organically from the sounds we collect, with each team member contributing their perspective. The final track will be released on streaming platforms and pitched to local radio stations like BBC Radio 6 Music, offering a modern love letter to Manchester.
