This project will create a 15-minute documentary music film that explores Ilorin's distinctive soundscape, weaving together the city's rich Yoruba musical heritage with its emerging contemporary music scene. We'll capture performances at significant cultural landmarks like the Emir's Palace, Oja Oba Market, and the University of Ilorin campus, creating a sonic portrait of the city that honors tradition while embracing modern expression. The unique approach involves recording ambient sounds of Ilorin (market chatter, blacksmith hammers at Oloje, call to prayer from Central Mosque) and transforming them into percussive elements within original musical compositions. We'll collaborate with local musicians playing traditional instruments like the Gangan (talking drum), Sekere, and Agidigbo alongside contemporary producers, creating a fusion that represents Ilorin's dual identity as both ancient royal city and modern educational hub. This project will showcase how Ilorin's unique position as a meeting point of cultures creates a musical identity unlike anywhere else in Nigeria.
