Project Brief

This project invites a small team of musicians, a sound engineer, and a filmmaker to create an immersive audio-visual experience rooted in Bewdley. The core concept is to compose and record an EP of ambient folk music that incorporates the natural and industrial sounds of the town—the flow of the Severn, the Severn Valley Railway's steam trains, the bustle of Load Street, and the quiet of the Wyre Forest. Each track will be inspired by a specific location and time of day, weaving together guitar, strings, and subtle electronics with field recordings. The creative vision is to produce a sonic postcard of Bewdley that resonates with locals and transports outsiders. Drawing on trends in lo-fi, ASMR, and environmental storytelling, the music will be paired with a short film that visually interprets the same locations, creating a multi-sensory portrait. The project is unique because it hyper-localizes a universal theme—the relationship between community and environment—and uses innovative recording techniques to blend natural sound with musical composition. By leveraging Bewdley's rich heritage and natural beauty, this project aims to create a portfolio piece that stands out for its authenticity and emotional depth. The final output will be a digital EP, a music video, and a behind-the-scenes documentary, offering multiple deliverables for the team's portfolios.
