This project is a short, atmospheric documentary that captures the fading craft of 'luzzu' boat building in the ancient fortified cities of Vittoriosa, Senglea, and Cospicua (the Three Cities) in Malta. Instead of a traditional narration, the film will rely on stunning visuals, natural soundscapes, and a haunting original score to tell the story of the craftsmen who maintain these vibrant, hand-painted fishing boats. We will follow one master carpenter over the course of a week as he restores a traditional luzzu, intercutting his work with sweeping drone shots of the Grand Harbour and intimate close-ups of the intricate, colourful eyes painted on the prows. The film aims to create a meditative, immersive experience that juxtaposes Malta's 21st-century tourism boom with the quiet, dying art of its maritime heritage. The final piece will be a portfolio-ready visual essay suited for film festivals, travel publications, and brand collaborations focused on heritage and craftsmanship.
