Project Brief

This project bridges the creative energy of London with the raw, maritime character of Hull through a unified visual arts series. Over four weeks, a small team will capture and reinterpret iconic landmarks—from the River Thames and Tower Bridge to Hull's Humber Bridge and The Deep—using a blend of photography, digital painting, and tactile mixed media (e.g., collage, acrylic, or spray paint). The final collection will explore themes of connectivity, industrial beauty, and the contrast between bustling metropolis and resilient port city. Each artwork will combine photographic elements of each city's unique light and architecture with hand-applied textures, creating a dialogue between the two locations. The series will be exhibited as a virtual gallery (using platforms like ArtSteps) and a limited-edition print set, with behind-the-scenes process videos shared on social media to engage local audiences. This project leverages the current trend of 'place-based storytelling' and the resurgence of mixed media in contemporary visual art. What makes this unique is the collaborative tension between London's fast-paced, global imagery and Hull's grounded, historic charm—a visual conversation that feels both intimate and expansive. The team will have the freedom to explore both cityscapes, with a final presentation that can be pitched to local galleries or open-call exhibitions.
