This project is a devised performance piece that follows the story of a character leaving the industrial landscapes of Hull for the bright lights of London. Using the performer's own experiences and interviews with locals from both cities, we'll create a raw, poetic, and visually striking cabaret. The show will weave together original spoken word, physical theatre sequences, and live or pre-recorded music, drawing on the unique rhythms of both cities β the maritime melancholy of Hull and the relentless pulse of London. The creative vision is to create a piece that feels both intimate and epic. The set design will use projection mapping to transform a simple stage space, shifting from the iconic Humber Bridge and Hull's old town to the busy streets of Shoreditch and the South Bank. We'll incorporate soundscapes recorded on location β seagulls and dock sounds from Hull, tube announcements and traffic from London β to build an aural collage. The performance will be designed for a small, versatile cast (3-5 performers) who can multi-role, ensuring it's achievable within a tight timeframe while maintaining high artistic quality. What makes this project unique is its genuine bi-city DNA. It's not just about London; it's about the dialogue between two very different English identities. The final piece will premiere in a small, alternative venue in East London, with a filmed version for online distribution, making it a standout portfolio piece for anyone involved in performing arts, event production, or content creation.
