Northern Echoes is a 20-minute immersive performance piece designed for the unique architecture of Manchester's iconic venues. The project fuses live performance with pre-recorded soundscapes of the city, from the rhythmic clatter of the trams to the hum of the Northern Quarter's nightlife. A single performer (the Director) will guide the audience through a narrative that explores Manchester's transformation, using movement, spoken word, and projected visuals. This project is a creative exploration of place and identity, leveraging the city's rich musical heritage (from Joy Division to The Haçienda) and its industrial history. The performance will be staged in a non-traditional space, such as an old warehouse or a railway arch, allowing the environment to become an integral part of the experience. The final piece will be filmed and edited into a high-quality short film, making it a compelling portfolio piece for both the director and any collaborators. What makes this project unique is its hyper-local focus. Every sound, every visual, and every movement will be inspired by Manchester, creating an authentic and emotionally resonant piece that could not exist anywhere else.
