This project transforms the New York City subway system into a living instrument. Over 3 weeks, a small team will collect field recordings from iconic stations—the echoing arches of Union Square, the rhythmic clatter of the Q train over the Manhattan Bridge, the ambient drone of the 14th Street–Union Square transfer tunnel. These raw sounds will be manipulated, layered, and composed into an original electronic/ambient EP that reflects the city's ceaseless energy. The creative vision is to create a piece that is both deeply local and universally resonant. By juxtaposing the organic chaos of the subway (announcements, footsteps, train screeches) with synthesized textures and beats, we craft an immersive audio narrative. The final EP will be accompanied by a visual component: a series of short looping videos, shot on location, synced to the music, offering a synesthetic glimpse of NYC's underbelly. What makes this unique: it's not just a music project; it's a love letter to New York's most iconic yet overlooked space. The team will have creative freedom to improvise, using the city as their muse. The result is a portfolio-ready piece that showcases technical skill, creative vision, and an intimate knowledge of New York's culture.
