This project is a site-specific dance film that transforms Manchester's Northern Quarter into a living, breathing stage. The concept is to create a visceral, sensory experience that contrasts the area's industrial heritage with its modern, neon-lit nightlife. The film will follow a cast of 5 dancers as they navigate iconic locations—from the graffiti-covered walls of Stevenson Square to the cobbled streets of the Craft & Design Centre—using movement to tell a story of urban isolation, connection, and the relentless pulse of the city. The narrative arc will move from solitary, angular movements in hidden alleys to a unifying, fluid ensemble piece in a bustling public square, all shot in a single continuous night. What makes this project unique is its hyper-local focus and collaborative nature. It's not just a dance film; it's a portrait of Manchester as experienced by its inhabitants after dark. By integrating the city's architecture and atmosphere as active participants in the choreography, we create a piece that could only exist here. The film will be shot in a vérité style, with handheld cameras and practical lighting sources (street lamps, shop signs, passing cars) to maintain raw authenticity. This project is perfect for a small, agile team to produce a high-impact, portfolio-worthy piece that leverages the current trend for immersive, location-driven performance art.
