Neon Tide is an immersive public art project that blends traditional mural painting with augmented reality to raise awareness about ocean conservation. A team of muralists, 3D artists, and developers will create six large-scale murals on the iconic Wynwood Walls in Miami, each depicting a different marine species threatened by climate change. When viewed through a free AR app, the murals transform: coral reefs regenerate, sea turtles swim off the wall, and waves crash in 3D space, accompanied by an original soundscape. The project leverages the latest ARKit and Spark AR capabilities, making it accessible to anyone with a smartphone. The creative vision is to merge Miami's vibrant street art culture with cutting-edge technology, creating a dialogue between the physical and digital worlds. Each mural will be painted by a local artist and augmented by a 3D artist, ensuring a seamless blend of styles. The project also includes a series of behind-the-scenes workshops and a closing event during Art Basel Miami Beach, where the public can interact with the murals and meet the artists. What makes Neon Tide unique is its dual nature: it's both a permanent physical installation and an evolving digital experience. The AR layers will be updated quarterly with new data from ocean research organizations, turning the murals into a living canvas that reflects the changing state of our oceans.
