This project transforms the iconic Brooklyn skyline into a living musical instrument. Over three weeks, a small team of musicians and sound designers will capture the city's unique sonic fingerprint—from the hum of the Williamsburg Bridge to the distant rumble of subway trains—and weave these field recordings into a 4-track EP. The music will blend ambient textures with rhythmic elements derived from the city's mechanical rhythms, creating a soundscape that is both deeply local and universally evocative. The concept is rooted in 'sonic place-making'—treating the urban environment as a collaborator. Each track will correspond to a different time of day and location, from dawn over the East River to the neon-lit chaos of Times Square after midnight. The final EP will be released with a companion visualizer video, featuring abstract animations of skyline photography that react to the music's frequencies, making it perfect for social media and streaming platforms. What makes this project unique is its fusion of technology and atmosphere. Using contact microphones, portable recorders, and modular synths, the team will create a piece that feels both organic and manufactured, capturing the city's relentless energy and unexpected moments of stillness. The result will be a portfolio-worthy release that demonstrates innovative sound design and a deep connection to place.
