Subway Symphony is a groundbreaking music project that captures the raw, rhythmic energy of New York City's subway system and reimagines it as a cohesive electronic music album. Over three weeks, a small team of musicians, producers, and visual artists will record field audio—train screeches, turnstile clicks, platform announcements, and passenger chatter—across iconic stations like Times Square, Grand Central, and Bedford Avenue. These samples will be manipulated and layered with original synths, beats, and melodies to create a unique sonic portrait of the city. The project culminates in an immersive live performance inside a decommissioned subway station (or a venue styled like one), where the audience wears wireless headphones and moves through different 'platforms' representing album tracks. Visual projections of subway footage and generative art will accompany the performance, creating a multisensory experience that celebrates the chaos and beauty of urban life. The album will be released digitally with a companion short film documenting the process and the city's reaction. What makes Subway Symphony unique is its hyper-local focus and the way it turns everyday noise into art. It leverages the current trend of ambient/field recording music and immersive audio experiences, while tapping into New Yorkers' deep connection to the subway. The project is designed to be portfolio-worthy, showcasing creativity, technical skill, and community engagement.
