This project reimagines the iconic Durbar festival of Ilorin through a contemporary lens. Set against the breathtaking backdrop of Sobi Hill, the performance will feature a troupe of dancers and horsemen moving in sync with the rhythm of talking drums, creating a visual symphony that celebrates Ilorin's cultural heritage while pushing artistic boundaries. The fusion of traditional equestrian displays with modern dance vocabulary will result in a unique, dynamic piece that speaks to both local pride and global audiences. The creative vision is to capture the raw energy and majesty of the Durbar in a natural setting, using drone cinematography to provide sweeping aerial views that highlight the landscape and the choreography. The performance will be structured in three movements: 'Earth' (grounded, rhythmic dance), 'Wind' (horsemen in motion), and 'Fire' (climactic fusion). This project is unique because it takes a familiar cultural event out of its usual context and reinterprets it through a multidisciplinary, site-specific approach, creating a portfolio-worthy piece that stands out for its innovation and cultural resonance.
