Project Brief

This project will create a series of 10 composite images and short video loops that explore the unique quality of light along the Thames Path in Surrey and Southwest London. We'll focus on the transition from the manicured gardens of Hampton Court Palace to the raw chalk grasslands of Box Hill, capturing dawn, dusk, and the 'golden hour' in both digital photography and time-lapse video. The final output will be a cohesive series that blends traditional landscape photography with subtle digital manipulation, creating a dreamlike, immersive view of these iconic locations. Each piece will be designed to be exhibited as large-format prints and shared as a moving-image gallery on social media, highlighting the often-overlooked natural beauty on London's doorstep. The unique angle is the 'Surrey light' – a specific atmospheric quality that artists like J.M.W. Turner and John Constable sought in the area. We will use a combination of high-end DSLR cameras, drone footage (where permitted), and digital painting techniques to create a collection that feels both contemporary and timeless. The project leverages the trend of 'landscape as ambient art' and the growing interest in 'slow travel' and local exploration. The small team will work together on location, capturing raw materials, and then collaborate on the post-production process to build a final portfolio that is both visually stunning and conceptually rigorous.
