This project invites a small creative team to reimagine Manchester's rich textile heritage through a series of large-scale murals and mixed-media installations across the Northern Quarter. Drawing inspiration from the city's iconic cotton mills and the geometric patterns of Manchester's historic fabrics, the team will create a trail of five neon-infused street art pieces that tell a story of industrial past and digital future. Each piece will incorporate reflective and fluorescent materials to create a striking visual impact during both day and night, aligning with the trend of 'Instagrammable' urban art that engages locals and tourists alike. The creative vision is to blend traditional pattern-making with contemporary street art techniques, using stencils, spray paint, and textile appliqué on weatherproof panels. The project will be site-specific, responding to the architecture and history of each location, from the cobbled streets of the Northern Quarter to the canal-side warehouses. What makes this unique is the collaborative process: the team will host a community workshop to gather local stories and patterns, ensuring the artwork resonates with Manchester's identity. This project is designed to be portfolio-worthy, offering participants a chance to contribute to the city's cultural landscape and gain exposure through social media and local press. It leverages current trends in experiential art and urban regeneration, creating a lasting visual legacy that celebrates Manchester's creative spirit.
