Project Brief

This project blends live performance with film, creating a unique piece that explores Bewdley's deep connection to the River Severn. The narrative follows a mysterious woman (the river spirit) who appears at key historical locations around town, from the iconic Georgian Bridge to the ruins of the old quay. As she moves through modern Bewdley, she encounters echoes of its flooding past, weaving a tale of loss, resilience, and renewal. The piece is designed to be shot in a cinematic, documentary-like style, capturing both the beauty of the town and the raw emotion of the performer. What makes this project unique is its integration of the town itself as the stage. The performance is not confined to a traditional theatre; it unfolds in public spaces, with the river as a constant presence. The final deliverable will be a 10-15 minute short film that serves as a powerful portfolio piece for the director/actor, showcasing their ability to create compelling narratives in real-world locations. It leverages the current trend of 'site-specific' and 'immersive' art, making it attractive to festivals and online platforms. The project is achievable with a small crew of 5-6 people, including the director, an actor, a cinematographer, a sound recordist, and a producer/editor.
