Manchester Soundscapes reimagines the city's creative heartbeat through an innovative fusion of music and visual storytelling. The project will capture authentic field recordings from iconic Northern Quarter locations—from the hum of Afflecks Palace to the clatter of Stevenson Square cafes—transforming these raw sounds into atmospheric ambient compositions. What makes this unique is the theatrical narrative woven throughout: a fictional character's journey through Manchester's streets, brought to life through voice performance and sequential illustration. This project bridges Manchester's rich musical heritage with its contemporary visual arts scene, creating a portfolio piece that demonstrates innovative cross-disciplinary collaboration. The final work will exist as both an immersive audio experience and an illustrated digital storybook, capturing the soul of the Northern Quarter in a way that's both nostalgic and forward-looking. We'll leverage current trends in ambient music, audio storytelling, and illustrated narrative experiences to create something authentically Mancunian.
