This project explores the sonic character of Manchester's vibrant Northern Quarter by blending live acoustic performances with field recordings from the area's iconic streets, cafes, and markets. The creative vision is to produce a multi-layered soundscape that tells a story of the neighbourhood—its rhythm, its textures, and its people. The final piece will be a 10-15 minute audio composition that can be experienced as a standalone track or as part of an interactive map-based installation. What makes this unique is the opportunity to weave together the raw energy of local musicians busking in Stevenson Square, the clatter of dishes at Mackie Mayor, and the distant rumble of trams on Oldham Street. The project celebrates Manchester’s rich musical heritage while capturing a contemporary, intimate portrait of one of its most creative quarters.
