Project Brief

This project will create a series of site-specific, digital artworks accessible via a mobile AR app. Users will be able to point their phones at key industrial landmarks in Manchester—such as the Castlefield Viaducts, the Science and Industry Museum, or the Northern Quarter's brickwork facades—to see them 'reclaimed' by fantastical, glowing digital plants, vines, and bioluminescent fungi. The concept explores the theme of 'post-industrial bloom,' visualizing Manchester's ongoing evolution from its manufacturing past into a thriving hub of digital and creative innovation. The installation will be unique in its blend of precise location-based technology and evocative visual storytelling. It's not just a filter; each digital organism's design will be inspired by the specific architecture and history of its anchor point. This creates a hidden, magical layer to the city's everyday landscape, encouraging exploration and offering a fresh, optimistic perspective on urban change. The project is designed to be portfolio-worthy, showcasing cutting-edge creative tech application within a strong conceptual framework rooted in local identity.
