Launch on final day of week 3
Northern Quarter Soundwalk is an immersive theatre experience that transforms the streets of Manchester's Northern Quarter into a living stage. Audiences will be given wireless headphones and guided by a pre-recorded audio track that weaves together local histories, poetry, and original music. Along the route, they will encounter live performers in unexpected locations—a dancer on a fire escape, a monologue in a record shop, a choral piece in a graffiti alley—each vignette exploring themes of community, change, and resilience in the face of gentrification. The piece will be created site-specifically, drawing on the unique architecture, street art, and independent businesses of the area. The creative team will collaborate with local historians and residents to gather authentic stories, ensuring the performance resonates with both locals and visitors. This project is portfolio-worthy because it combines digital audio production, physical performance, and community engagement, resulting in a replicable model for urban storytelling. It leverages current trends in immersive and experiential theatre, as well as the growing popularity of audio walks. The final performance will be documented professionally, providing high-quality footage for all involved.
