This project brings together performers, a marketing manager, and an editor to create a 15-minute site-specific performance piece. We will explore the cultural and historical connections between Hull, a historic port city, and London, a global hub on the Thames. The piece will juxtapose the working-class grit of Hull's docks with the polished urbanity of London's South Bank, drawing on interviews, archival material, and personal stories. The creative vision is to create a 'performed documentary'—a hybrid form that uses physical theatre, spoken word, and simple costumes to evoke place and character. Performers will embody both human figures (dockers, commuters, street performers) and abstract elements (tides, bridges, cargo). The work will be raw, poetic, and accessible, designed to be performed in non-traditional spaces like a warehouse or a pier, with minimal tech. What makes this unique is its focus on two cities often seen as disconnected, and its use of documentary research as a springboard for physical storytelling. The final piece will be filmed and edited into a short film for online release, extending its reach beyond the live audience.
