This project brings together five musicians to capture the essence of Manchester through field recordings and original compositions. Each artist will be assigned a specific location—such as Piccadilly Gardens, the Northern Quarter, the Bridgewater Canal, Old Trafford, and the Etihad Campus—to gather ambient sounds, interviews, and musical motifs. These recordings will then be transformed into a series of tracks that blend electronic production with organic textures, creating a sonic postcard of the city. The final output will be an album of five tracks, each accompanied by a short visual piece (shot on location) that will be released on streaming platforms and social media. The project aims to celebrate Manchester's rich cultural heritage and its modern, innovative spirit. By involving local musicians and capturing the authentic sounds of the city, 'A Sonic Tapestry' offers a unique, hyper-local listening experience that resonates globally. What makes this project unique is its collaborative, location-specific approach. It not only showcases the musicians' individual styles but also creates a collective work that is deeply rooted in Manchester's identity. The integration of field recordings with electronic music is a current trend in the ambient and experimental music scenes, and this project leverages that to produce a portfolio-worthy piece.
