Project Brief

This project explores the ghostly remnants of London’s 1980s arcade culture. Instead of documenting decay, we will transform three iconic arcade locations into surreal neon dreamscapes using lighting, projection mapping, and digital post-production. The final images will blend the grit of Soho’s backstreets with the nostalgia of pixel art, creating a visual series that feels both retro and futuristic. We will scout forgotten arcade spots in Soho, Camden, and Shoreditch, capturing them at golden hour and using portable LED panels to cast multicoloured neon shapes across broken machines and peeling wallpaper. Each image will incorporate subtle digital overlays—ghostly 8-bit characters, glitch effects, and simulated CRT scan lines—to evoke the feeling of a memory fading into pixels. The project culminates in a limited-edition zine and a physical art show in a pop-up gallery near Brick Lane, showcasing the printed series alongside an interactive projection installation. What makes this unique: It merges documentary photography with interactive digital art, all rooted in London’s specific cultural history. The output is both a nostalgic tribute and a cutting-edge visual experiment, perfect for portfolios in contemporary visual arts.
