This project captures the raw energy of Manchester's alternative music culture, weaving a documentary-style narrative with a fictional edge. We'll follow a young DJ as she revives the spirit of Northern Soul in a city reshaped by gentrification. The film uses a mix of interviews, live performance footage, and cinematic cityscapes to ask: what happens when a subculture fights for its soul? The unique angle is the fusion of past and present. We'll shoot in iconic but reimagined spaces: the old Victoria Baths, a brutalist car park in Salford, and a hidden warehouse near Piccadilly. The visual style will be gritty, high-contrast, with neon accents and a handheld camera, referencing the work of Shane Meadows and the raw aesthetic of early rave culture footage. This is a love letter to Manchester's resilience and creativity.
