Project Brief

This project is a fast-paced, documentary-style content series that turns the lens on the final generation of independent shopkeepers in East London. As the city transforms at breakneck speed, we'll visit beloved family-run businesses in areas like Shoreditch, Hackney, and Bethnal Green — from old-school pie and mash shops to second-hand record stores and traditional cobbler stalls. The concept is to create a 'digital time capsule' that celebrates the history, humour, and craft of these characters who make London unique, saving their stories for a global TikTok and Instagram audience before they're gone forever. The creative vision is to give these unpolished gems a premium, cinematic treatment. Each mini-documentary will use a consistent visual language (warm colour grading, intimate close-ups, and subtle camera movement) to make each shop feel like a stage. We'll weave in hidden histories, local folklore, and the shopkeepers' own candid opinions on gentrification, creating content that's both nostalgic and socially relevant. The final output will include 6-8 short-form videos and one longer compilation piece, designed to be shared and to foster a community around the 'real' London.
