Whispers of the Severn is an immersive, promenade-style theatre piece that leads small groups along the picturesque banks of the River Severn in Bewdley, weaving together local legends, historical events, and original ghost stories. The performance will utilise Bewdley's iconic landmarks—the Georgian townscape, the historic bridge, and the riverside gardens—as a living stage, with scenes unfolding in unexpected locations. Audiences will be guided by lantern-carrying performers and encounter a cast of spectral characters who bring the town's past to life. The creative vision is to create an intimate, atmospheric experience that celebrates Bewdley's unique heritage while embracing the current trend for experiential and participatory arts. By integrating local folklore with contemporary storytelling techniques, the project aims to engage both residents and visitors, offering a fresh perspective on familiar places. The use of minimal set and reliance on natural light and sound will ensure the production is environmentally conscious and site-responsive. What makes this project unique is its deep-rooted connection to Bewdley's identity and its potential to become a recurring seasonal event. The collaboration between filmmakers and performers will also result in a short documentary and promotional film, extending the project's reach and providing portfolio-worthy content for all involved.
