This project is a fashion editorial that celebrates Bengaluru's dual identity as a heritage city and a modern tech hub. We will collaborate with local silk weavers from the Karnataka Silk Industries Corporation (KSIC) to source authentic Bangalore silk, and draw inspiration from the intricate stone carvings of the Hoysala and Vijayanagara periods found in temples like the Bull Temple and ISKCON. The concept is to create a fusion collection that pairs traditional silk fabrics with contemporary streetwear silhouettes—think silk bomber jackets, dhoti-inspired trousers, and graphic tees with carved motifs. The editorial will be shot at three iconic locations: the Bangalore Palace, the Bull Temple, and the modern skyline of UB City, creating a visual narrative of past and present. What makes this unique is the hyper-local collaboration and the juxtaposition of eras. We will work with a local illustrator to create custom prints based on temple carvings, and a graphic designer to design a zine that documents the process. The final output will be a series of high-fashion photographs and a short behind-the-scenes video, culminating in an exhibition at a local café or gallery. This project not only showcases local talent but also promotes sustainable fashion by using locally sourced materials and highlighting traditional craftsmanship.
