Project Brief

This project transforms London's lesser-known waterways into a living soundscape for a one-night-only immersive performance. The creative team will explore hidden canals, underground rivers, and industrial waterways to capture field recordings, then compose an original electronic score that responds to these environments. The performance will take place at dusk along the Regent's Canal near Camden, where musicians will trigger sounds using motion sensors and contact microphones attached to bridges, locks, and water surfaces. What makes this unique is the fusion of London's industrial heritage with contemporary electronic music, creating what we're calling 'aquatic techno' - a genre that blends the rhythmic sounds of water machinery with melodic compositions. The performance will incorporate projection mapping onto canal-side architecture, synchronized with the live music. This project taps into the growing trend of site-specific performances and environmental sound art, while showcasing London's hidden waterways as cultural spaces worthy of artistic exploration.
