This project is an immersive, site-specific physical theatre piece that transforms the vibrant, eclectic streets of Manchester's Northern Quarter into a living stage. The performance follows 'The Starving Artist,' a character driven by ambition and desperation, who interacts with the environment and the public, blurring the line between reality and performance. The narrative is non-linear, using movement, mime, and minimal dialogue, punctuated by ghostly inspirations and crushing rejections. The piece culminates in a public 'Exhibition of Failure' in a pop-up space, where audience feedback becomes part of the art. What makes this unique is its hyper-local focus: the story is embedded in the architecture of Afflecks Palace, the neon glow of Stevenson Square, and the coffee culture of Tib Street. The artist's 'failed' paintings (created by the team's illustrator) will be displayed as props and later as the final exhibit. The project leverages the trend of 'immersive deconstruction,' where the creative process itself is laid bare, and the audience becomes a collaborator. The team can rehearse in a local community hall or studio space, then perform guerilla-style 'pop-up' shows over a weekend, capturing raw, authentic reactions. The final deliverable will be a 15-minute condensed film version of the best live performances, edited for online audiences, and a photographic series documenting the public's interaction. This is a portfolio piece that screams 'Manchester grit meets creative innovation.'
