Project Brief

This project envisions a music video that transcends the typical performance format, turning London's diverse sonic landscape into a character itself. The core concept follows a musician (or spoken word artist) moving through a series of interconnected London spaces – from the tiled catacombs of the London Underground to the vaulted archways of a hidden warehouse in Hackney Wick, and finally to the hushed grandeur of a disused church in Southwark. Each location will represent a distinct sonic and emotional 'movement' in the track, with the music adapting to the natural reverb and atmosphere of each site. The uniqueness lies in the real-time fusion of location sound and music. We will record the performance live in each space, capturing the authentic ambience (train rumbles, dripping water, distant city hum) to create a layered, site-specific audio-visual experience. The final piece will weave these recorded moments into a seamless narrative, exploring themes of urban isolation and connection. The visual style will be moody and cinematic, emphasizing natural light and shadow, with occasional surreal elements like projected archival footage of London onto the walls as the musician performs. This project leverages the current trend of 'site-responsive' art and the resurgence of intimate, atmospheric music videos. It's a portfolio piece that showcases the talent's ability to create compelling narrative and atmosphere with limited resources, tapping into London's rich architectural and cultural history.
